ETFGI Reports Assets Invested In ETFs/ETPs Listed In Europe Reached A New Record High Of 567 Billion US Dollars At The End Of Q3 2016

ETFGI, the leading independent research and consultancy firm on trends in the global ETF/ETP ecosystem, today reported assets invested in ETFs/ETPs listed in Europe reached a new record high US$567 Bn at the end of Q3 2016. Net flows gathered by ETFs/ETPs in September were US$2.98 Bn of net new assets gathered during the month marking the 25th consecutive month of net inflows, according to preliminary data from ETFGI’s September 2016 global ETF and ETP industry insights report (click here to view the ETFGI global asset growth chart for ETFs/ETPs listed in Europe).
 
Record levels of assets were also reached at the end of Q3 for ETFs/ETPs listed globally at US$3.408 trillion, in the United States with US$2.416 trillion, and in Asia Pacific ex-Japan at US$131.88 Bn.

At the end of Q3 2016, the European ETF/ETP industry had 2,219 ETFs/ETPs, with 6,953 listings, assets of US$567 Bn, from 56 providers listed on 25 exchanges in 21 countries. 

“Although there was a rally after the FOMC's vote to leave interest rates unchanged in September, the S&P 500 ended the month flat and the SJIA with a moderate decline of 0.4%. Developed markets ex-US and Emerging markets were up 1.5% and 1.2%, respectively" according to Deborah Fuhr, co-founder and managing partner at ETFGI.

In September 2016, ETFs/ETPs saw net inflows of US$2.98 Bn. Fixed Income ETFs/ETPs gathered the largest net inflows with US$1.15 Bn, followed by equity ETFs/ETPs with US$1.04 Bn, and commodity ETFs/ETPs with US$667 Mn.

YTD through end of Q3 2016, ETFs/ETPs have seen net inflows of US$41.54 Bn. Fixed Income ETFs/ETPs gathered the largest net inflows YTD with US$26.50 Bn, followed by commodity ETFs/ETPs with US$12.15 Bn, and equity ETFs/ETPs with US$845 Mn.

iShares is the largest ETF/ETP provider in terms of assets with US$266 Bn, reflecting 46.9% market share; db x/db ETC is second with US$61 Bn and 10.8% market share, followed by Lyxor AM with US$52 Bn and 9.2% market share. The top three ETF/ETP providers, out of 56, account for 66.9% of European ETF/ETP assets.

iShares gathered the largest net ETF/ETP inflows in September with US$1.33 Bn, followed by Vanguard with US$942 Mn and UBS ETFs with US$414 Mn net inflows.
